The SplitMultiSeis Sparker 1-100 multielectrode electric spark source is designed to excite a high-frequency acoustic pulse when performing high-resolution (SVR) and ultrahigh/ultrahigh (SSVR/SUVR) seismic surveys.
The principle of operation of the device
The principle of operation of an electric spark source is based on the conversion of electrical energy into acoustic energy by heating water when an electric current flows through it. The excitation of elastic waves occurs when an electrical breakdown occurs between two electrodes after a rapid application of a sufficiently high voltage from a sufficiently powerful source. The heat released leads to heating, evaporation and partial decomposition of the liquid. As a result, a combined-cycle gas area with high internal pressure arises. The subsequent movement of the walls of the vapor-gas region leads to the appearance in the surrounding space of an intense compression wave with maximum pressure at the wave front of the same order as the internal pressure in the cavity.
